Senior Comfort Grooming is suitable for older dogs and dogs with age-related needs, including:
This service is priced by time and care needed, not age alone. If an older dog still copes well with a standard groom, a normal appointment may still be suitable.
Older dogs often need more care during grooming because their bodies change with age. They may find it harder to stand for long periods. Their skin may be more delicate. Their joints may feel stiff or painful. Some dogs become more nervous because they cannot see or hear as well as before.
Because of this, senior grooming should be slower, calmer and more flexible. During a Senior Comfort Groom, Ilona may allow more breaks, use gentle handling, support your dog when standing, adapt the groom if your dog becomes tired, work carefully around warts, lumps and sensitive areas, use comfort-based styling instead of a difficult style, and suggest a shorter groom if your dog cannot manage a full appointment.
For elderly dogs, comfort comes first. The aim is to keep your dog clean, comfortable and safe. A perfect haircut is not more important than your dog's wellbeing.
A shorter comfort clip may be kinder if your dog struggles with brushing, drying, standing or coat maintenance. Painful de-matting is not recommended for elderly, weak or fragile dogs. If your dog is matted, Ilona will discuss the safest and kindest option with you.
Each groom is adapted to your dog's coat, health, behaviour, mobility and comfort level.
Some elderly dogs cannot cope with a full groom in one appointment. In these cases, a shorter hygiene groom or a split groom may be kinder.
Suitable for dogs who are very old, weak, tired, anxious or medically sensitive.

Your dog's welfare comes first. Ilona may stop the groom if your dog becomes too tired, too stressed, painful, weak, unsteady, breathless, unwell or unable to cope safely. If this happens, she will contact you and discuss the safest next step. Senior grooming should never be forced.

Before your dog's first Senior Comfort Groom, please share the following so Ilona can plan the safest and kindest appointment:
Important: Ilona is a dog groomer, not a vet, and does not diagnose health conditions. If she notices sore skin, new lumps, pain, unusual behaviour, discharge, signs of infection or anything concerning, she will let you know so you can speak to your vet.
If your older dog finds grooming harder than before, Senior Comfort Grooming gives them a calmer and kinder experience. Please get in touch before booking so Ilona can understand your dog's age, health, coat, mobility and grooming needs.
